 Determination of sound power
 
In the majority of cases, technical specifications of "noisy" products (e.g. air-conditioners, pumps, fans, generators, lawnmowers) do not provide adequate information about the emission of noise.

 

Pollution Control Consultancy and Design (PCCD) carry out tests, which determine the:

  1. sound power level of products (in 1/3 octave bands), based on in-situ measurements of the sound intensity
    (for details, please see: SOUND POWER);
     
  2. tonality and low-frequency contents (in 1/3-octave bands or narrow-bands);
     

which are essential to predict the noise impact of products operating in a particular location, in terms of the EPA Noise Policy for Industry (NPfI).


Such information allow to determine whether the products need any noise control measures (e.g. an acoustical enclosure, a silencer, a noise barrier) in the particular location.
